How to send fan mail to Dav Pilkey
Where do you send fan mail to Dav Pilkey?
Send it to Dav Pilkey, c/o Scholastic Inc., 557 Broadway, New York, NY 10012-3999. Scholastic publishes Dog Man, Cat Kid Comic Club, and Captain Underpants, and its “Writing to Scholastic Authors” page says to address letters to the author at that address so Scholastic can forward them. His own website, pilkey.com, doesn’t list a mailing address, so the publisher is the official route.
Scholastic’s page also asks you to “include a postage-paid envelope with the author’s name on it.” A letter mailed through IRIS travels in a postage-paid envelope with Dav Pilkey’s name on the first address line, so the forwarding desk can see who it’s for.
Can kids write to Dav Pilkey?
Yes; most of his readers are kids. A parent, guardian, or teacher can handle the personal details: the return address can be the school’s or a parent’s, and a child can sign with a first name only.
A class can write together, too. A teacher can type one class letter with every student’s first name at the end, and IRIS mails it for $3.20. Want each student’s letter mailed on its own? Tell us about the class set and we’ll quote it.
What should a fan letter to Dav Pilkey say?
Tell him which book got you reading and why: the Dog Man chapter that made you laugh hardest, or the Cat Kid Comic Club story that made you start your own comic. His official site says he was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia as a child and drew his own comic books while sitting in the school hallway, so a line about the comics you make fits right in. One page is plenty. Write the return address inside the letter as well as on the envelope.
Drawings are part of many letters to him. Scan or photograph the drawing, add it to your letter as a PDF page, and upload it to IRIS. Color printing is $0.40 a page, so a one-page letter plus a color drawing is $3.80 with postage included.
Will Dav Pilkey write back?
Scholastic’s page says it can’t promise authors will respond to all their mail, but that they read the letters and appreciate hearing from readers. Neither pilkey.com nor Scholastic says whether he sends replies or autographs, so let a young writer know an answer may not come. His official site lists his tour events, which are the more direct chance to see him.
How do you mail it with IRIS?
Type the letter in the editor here, enter “Dav Pilkey, c/o Scholastic Inc.” and the Broadway address as the recipient, and check the letter, both addresses, and the total before you pay. A one-page black-and-white letter is $3.20 with First-Class postage included, and there’s no account to create.
