Direct answer
You can mail a letter from your phone or computer without visiting the post office: upload a finished US Letter PDF or use a supported guided letter template. Review the document, enter the return and recipient addresses, choose printing and an eligible USPS service, then check the exact total before payment. IRIS prints, addresses, and submits the letter; you remain responsible for the document, its contents, and the recipient’s requirements.
Choose how to start
| Starting point | Best fit |
|---|---|
| Finished PDF or document | You already have a final, permitted letter. Keep all printable pages in one US Letter PDF and inspect them before upload; use another approved method for sensitive or original-only packets. |
| Guided letter template | You need a structured starting point for supported personal or business correspondence. Review the generated text and required fields before choosing mailing. |
| Phone workflow | Export or share the document as a PDF from the phone, reopen it from Files or Downloads, and check page breaks, signatures, and image quality before upload. |
| Official form | Download the current form and instructions from the issuing agency first. Confirm its privacy requirements, signatures, attachments, destination, deadline, and accepted filing method; do not assume a form is suitable for consumer upload. |
Prepare before upload
- A finished PDF with every page in US Letter format
- A current US recipient address and a return address
- All required signatures, attachments, and supporting pages
- A choice between black-and-white or color and one-sided or two-sided printing
- The recipient’s current deadline and mailing instructions
- A PDF without password protection, with the final source copy saved separately
IRIS accepts a PDF up to 26 MB. A standard letter may contain up to 60 single-sided pages or 120 double-sided pages. Certified Mail is limited to six printed sheets: six single-sided or 12 double-sided PDF pages.
Send the letter step by step
Finish the document.
Read every page and confirm names, dates, amounts, signatures, attachments, margins, orientation, and page order. IRIS prints the file you upload and cannot decide whether its contents satisfy a recipient’s rules.
Save or export a PDF.
Use US Letter pages. If the document starts on a phone, reopen the exported PDF and check it before uploading.
Upload the file.
Confirm the detected page count and compare the preview with the source document.
Check both addresses.
Enter the return and recipient addresses exactly as they should appear on the envelope. Address suggestions are advisory, so compare them with the source you trust.
Choose printing and postage.
Select black-and-white or color, one-sided or two-sided printing, and ordinary First-Class Mail or Certified Mail when the eligibility, record, and page limits fit.
Review the total and pay.
Confirm the displayed document, addresses, page count, options, and total before continuing to Stripe Checkout.
Match the mailing record to the need
| Service | What it provides |
|---|---|
| First-Class Mail | Ordinary letter delivery. A one-page black-and-white letter starts at $3.20 through IRIS, and ordinary mail does not provide the same item-level record as Certified Mail. |
| Certified Mail | USPS offers a mailing receipt and available tracking for eligible letters. IRIS displays a tracking number and provider-reported events when received; it does not supply a downloadable, postmarked USPS receipt. IRIS limits Certified Mail to six printed sheets. |
| Electronic Return Receipt | An eligible USPS add-on for delivery and signature information. Do not assume IRIS supplies the electronic Return Receipt artifact; its order status reports the events it receives, not proof the recipient read the letter. |
Check the recipient’s instructions before paying for a postal service. USPS records cannot establish that a form was complete or that an agency accepted a filing.
When the workflow does not fit
Some recipients require an original ink-signed page, a physical photograph, a payment enclosed with the packet, a particular paper stock, or a filing method other than a printed PDF. A print-and-mail service cannot supply those items or override the recipient’s instructions. Download the current official form and confirm the accepted submission method before sending.
Without an applicable written agreement with IRIS, do not upload government identifiers, highly sensitive medical records, payment-card credentials, passwords, or other contents requiring a privacy or security commitment IRIS has not accepted. Send such documents through an approved direct channel instead. Keep the private order-status link out of public posts and forwarded messages.
After checkout
IRIS provides a private order-status link. It can show production status, a tracking number, and provider-reported mail events when received; it does not furnish a downloadable USPS postmarked mailing receipt or a Return Receipt artifact. A provider report is not independently confirmed postal acceptance, and USPS delivery dates are estimates, not guarantees.
